First-pass pulmonary retention of sufentanil at three different background blood concentrations of the opioid.

چکیده
Using a double-indicator technique, we have studied, in 10 patients undergoing aorto-coronary bypass surgery, first-pass pulmonary retention of sufentanil. Pulmonary retention was studied at three pseudo steady-state background blood concentrations of 2.8 (0.66), 6.9 (1.2) and 15.9 (2.6) ng ml-1, respectively, produced by a computer-controlled infusion. Mean first-pass pulmonary retentions at these concentrations were 68 (95% confidence intervals 62-73), 65 (60-70) and 60 (52-67)%, respectively. First-pass pulmonary retention of sufentanil was significantly lower at the highest background concentration compared with the lowest background concentration. First-pass pulmonary retention of sufentanil was partly saturable in the range of concentrations used for clinical purposes.

Intranasal sufentanil for postoperative pain control in lower abdominal pediatric surgery
Introduction: The most important role in postoperative pain management is still played by opioids administered through various modes. In the last few years, there had been an intensive search for alternative mode of opioids administration in pain management. The intranasal mode of opioids administration seems to be attractive alternative. Methods: Sixty boys (aged 0.5-6 yr); ASA physical stat...
متن کاملAlfentanil causes less postoperative nausea and vomiting than equipotent doses of fentanyl or sufentanil in outpatients.
BACKGROUND The relative potencies of alfentanil, fentanyl, and sufentanil as a risk factor for postoperative nausea and vomiting have not been determined. They were compared in a randomized study designed to obtain equipotent plasma concentrations of these three opioids at the beginning of the recovery period. METHODS The study included 274 patients treated on an outpatient basis. The steady ...

Background: The pharmacodynamic differences in time to onset and dissipation of effect of sufentanil, fentanyl, and alfentanil probably result from different rates of blood-brain equilibration. The authors investigated this hypothesis in humans. Methods: After simultaneous central venous bolus application of sufentanil (10 pg), fentanyl (100 pg), and alfentanil (1,000 pg), arterial and jugular ...
متن کاملInfluence of intraoperative opioid on postoperative pain and pulmonary function after laparoscopic gastric banding: remifentanil TCI vs sufentanil TCI in morbid obesity.
BACKGROUND Choice of opioid may influence postoperative pain, recovery, and respiratory homeostasis in morbid obesity. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of target-controlled infusions (TCIs) of remifentanil or sufentanil on postoperative analgesia, recovery, and pulmonary function after laparoscopic gastric banding. METHODS Forty morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic ...
متن کاملSubarachnoid sufentanil for early postoperative pain management in orthopedic patients: a placebo-controlled, double-blind study using spinal microcatheters.
BACKGROUND Continuous spinal anesthesia is frequently used for intraoperative anesthesia but rarely for postoperative pain management. Because even small doses of local anesthetics can be associated with motor deficits, subarachnoid opioid injection may be an alternative. METHODS Eighty patients randomly received a subarachnoid injection of 10 microg sufentanil, 5 mg bupivacaine, 2.5 microg s...
